Things to Do in
Gilbert & Eastside Phoenix
A curated weekly roundup of farmers markets, live music, food truck nights, family activities, and community events — all in the neighborhoods I serve.
Living here means there's always something going on. Whether you're a longtime local or just moved to the area, this is your go-to guide for the week's best events. I update this every week — if you spot something we missed, let me know.
T.I. at The Van Buren
Kick off the week with hip-hop legend T.I. at one of Phoenix's best mid-sized venues. With over two decades of hits — from "Whatever You Like" to "Live Your Life" — this is a show that delivers. Tickets available through the venue website. All ages.
Megan Moroney at Desert Diamond Arena
Country star Megan Moroney brings her tour to the West Valley. Known for her honest songwriting and powerhouse vocals, her shows sell out fast. Tickets still available through the venue. A great Tuesday night road trip worth the 30-minute drive from Gilbert.
Town & Country Farmers Market
A midweek farmers market in central Phoenix with local produce, artisan breads, honey, and prepared foods. Small but well-curated — perfect for grabbing lunch ingredients or a midday break. Year-round, rain or shine.
Santana & The Doobie Brothers at Mortgage Matchup Arena
A double bill of rock royalty. Santana's iconic guitar and The Doobie Brothers' timeless harmonies share one stage for a night of classic hits spanning generations. "Black Magic Woman," "Listen to the Music," "Oye Como Va" — it's a bucket-list show right downtown. Air-conditioned arena, easy parking.
A Tribute to Woodstock 1969 at Hale Centre Theatre
Right here in downtown Gilbert, Hale Centre Theatre opens their tribute to the music of Woodstock — Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, The Band, and Jefferson Airplane. Live musicians, no lip-syncing, and that 1969 energy. Opening weekend lands Friday and Saturday. Tickets start around $35. Walkable from the Heritage District restaurants.
Gilbert Farmers Market
The Gilbert Farmers Market runs every Saturday rain or shine at the CGCC campus, just east of Gilbert Road. Fresh seasonal produce, local honey, farm-fresh eggs, artisan breads, and gourmet prepared foods from Arizona growers. Go early before the heat sets in and grab breakfast while you shop.
Uptown Farmers Market
A weekly Saturday market in the Uptown area of Phoenix right off Central Avenue. Local produce, artisan baked goods, gourmet coffee, and handcrafted gifts. The shaded setup helps with the summer sun. Worth the drive from the East Valley for the pupusa stand alone.
Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market
Year-round Saturday market in the Phoenix Bioscience Core district downtown. Summer hours run 7:30 to 11:30 AM. Local farmers, prepared food vendors, live music, and a real community feel. Grab your produce and spend the rest of the day exploring downtown.
Ne-Yo & Akon at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre
Two R&B and pop icons sharing one stage for a night packed with hits. Ne-Yo ("So Sick," "Miss Independent") and Akon ("Lonely," "Smack That") bring decades of chart-topping energy to this outdoor amphitheatre. Lawn tickets are the budget-friendly play — bring a blanket and some friends.
The Black Crowes & Whiskey Myers at Mortgage Matchup Center
Rock and southern grit collide as The Black Crowes and Whiskey Myers co-headline downtown. Expect "Hard to Handle," "Jealous Again," and the kind of raw guitar work that fills an arena. Whiskey Myers opens with their signature Texas-country-meets-Southern-rock sound. Two shows in one night.
Battle of the Bruschetta at Heritage District
A week-long celebration of everyone's favorite Italian appetizer at participating restaurants in Gilbert's Heritage District. Vote for your favorite bruschetta, sample creative takes from local chefs, and stroll the downtown square. Free to participate — just show up, eat, and vote. Ends Monday.
Ahwatukee Farmers Market
A Sunday morning market in the Ahwatukee neighborhood. Summer hours run 8 to 11 AM. Local produce, fresh flowers, baked goods, and artisan vendors. Smaller than the big Saturday markets but less crowded and easier to browse with kids.
Albert Castiglia at Musical Instrument Museum
Blues guitarist Albert Castiglia performs an afternoon show at the intimate MIM Theater. A master of the modern blues guitar — expect soulful solos and raw, emotional songwriting. Your ticket includes museum admission, so arrive early to explore the galleries. Air-conditioned and world-class acoustics.
Hale Centre Theatre: The Little Mermaid
Final week for Disney's The Little Mermaid at Gilbert's award-winning Hale Centre Theatre. Tickets start at $35 for youth and $62 for adults, with multiple showtimes through Saturday. A perfect summer outing if you have kids or just love live theatre. Right in the heart of downtown Gilbert.
Julia Child: A Recipe for Life at Arizona Science Center
A brand-new immersive exhibit tracing Julia Child's journey from Paris to her groundbreaking cookbook and TV show. Hands-on kitchen stations, interactive cooking challenges, and original artifacts — plus the regular Science Center exhibits. Air-conditioned, educational, and perfect for a hot August day with the kids. Closed Mondays.
Water Tower Plaza Splash Pad
Free splash pad fun right under Gilbert's iconic water tower in the Heritage District. Shaded area with pop-jet fountains, a spinning granite ball, and a water wall. Night lights create a cool water-and-light show in the evenings. Open daily through November 30. Pack sunscreen, bring the kids, and grab dinner at a nearby restaurant after.

This powerful exhibition pairs artwork by 25+ renowned Indigenous artists with personal letters they wrote to their younger selves. Reflections on creativity, identity, and lived experience in a gorgeous air-conditioned museum setting. A meaningful outing for families and anyone who loves art and storytelling.
